BUSINESS NAME: KD'S NOLA TREATS

OWNER'S NAME: KIM

WEBSITE: www.kdsnolatreats.com

WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR BUSINESS?

I started this business in 2016 as a stress relief from working in Corporate Accounting. I had always yearned to find my true passion & discovered that baking was just that. I’d always bake for my grandparents and relatives for holidays or family get-togethers, not knowing that one day I’d own a business doing so. KD’s NOLA Treats has given me the freedom to make my own rules while working for myself, but most importantly the ability to pass a legacy on to my daughter.

WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST OBSTACLE THAT YOU'VE OVERCOME?

The biggest obstacle I’ve overcome has to be believing in myself! I wasn’t given a blueprint for entrepreneurship. I had to learn as I go the do’s & dont’s as well as all the legalities behind it. I’ve had to build a menu while learning how to bake from scratch. I’ve had to take risks & reach many exhaustion levels during the building stage. Although I have much more to learn I’ve gotten over the hump.  I left my corporate job in December 2017 to turn a dream into reality. I was accepted into Roux Carre in March & have been running my dessert business out of their incubator since.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR UP AND COMING ENTREPRENEURS?

My number one advice is to find your passion, tap into it & never give up on it. Once you’ve found your passion, you’ve found your purpose. It’s a gift all in itself. Whether you pursue it as a career or hobby, it’s yours to choose what to do with it!

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE?

My plan is to branch out into more local festivals & even those in other states. I’d love to open my own establishment one day to incorporate small bites & mini desserts coffee & spirits.
